A unique venue nestled in Breda di Piave {between Venice & Treviso}, Locanda Rosa Rosae has so much character and beautiful details everywhere you turn. The setting is so bucolic that you’d never know you were so close to the hectic bustle of Venice and other nearby cities. This venue just has so much personality – it is steeped in history but has been modernized just enough to give it unique design elements. It’s one of those spots that needs to be savored in order to appreciate all of its sensory delights – the sound of the creek running alongside the property, the scents of la cena being prepared, the feeling of the sun on your face as you walk through their private vineyard.  There are gorgeous details around every corner – the owners took this ancient watermill and turned it into a refined, yet magical setting overflowing with ambience and charm; everything is perfectly styled without looking staged, so one feels very at home; they have preserved the building’s history by integrating a lot of natural elements in their design; there’s a feeling of bringing the outside in (they make extra use of an herb-cutting garden by bringing in the plants to adorn the tables at mealtime). Add to that the multitude of textures from the exposed brick and ancient raw beams mixed with varied antique furniture and accessories and you have yourself the ultimate feast for the eyes. I was fortunate to be able to spend an entire day here, so saw the light change from bright & cheerful outdoors to moody & atmospheric inside; alot of chiaroscuro is created from the natural window light in the afternoon and as the daylight fades they light hundreds of candles – no electric lights on at all – so you literally feel like you’ve stepped back in time. I’ve never felt so “present” before, it was truly a staggeringly beautiful experience.
